Labour of Love

The art of re-creating pre-loved, heirloom or otherwise unworn jewels

The art of re-creating pre-loved, heirloom or otherwise unworn jewels is just that, a labor of love. Where creativity and sentimentality collide. The results are a work of art with precious memories encased, making that piece of jewellery apart of the wearer in more ways than one.

The creation process is just that a ‘process‘ one that clients wholeheartedly enjoy being apart of. For some it’s a way of moving on past a hard time in their lives. Maybe it’s celebrating a cherished loved one past or present or a special occasion in their life. Maybe it’s also simply creative freedom where their styles and choices have changed over the years and they wish to represent who they are now. Either way it becomes so much more than simply a piece of jewellery or inanimate object.

One thing that truly separates remodeling from custom creations from new.

It’s the uniqueness that no two people will ever have the same combinations of stones or tastes in jewellery to match, regardless of if it’s come from that ‘typical’ 70’s engagement ring that everyone had at that time. There’s usually so much more to the collection than that alone. Then there’s the memories intertwined with each piece being remodeled, they are yours alone! The secret to a good remodel is increasing the value whether that’s achieved through combining all your valuable pieces into one, the addition of gemstones to complete an aesthetic or through the quality craftsmanship alone. Remodeling in itself is art combined with small scale engineering, as your creating using varying size stones or unique colour combinations that maybe wouldn’t have been chosen otherwise, so naturally no two jewellers will have the same vision for what they see among your special pieces.

How it begins

It often starts with going through your collection at home. Maybe you have things you don’t even know what they are, or if they are even able to be used towards a new piece.  Maybe it’s an old pair of diamond studs you don’t really wear much anymore but grandma gave them to you for your 18th birthday. All these things can be assessed overall and used depending on your design and what works best for you and your particular treasured items.

Next you sit down with Elayne where she can assess the jewellery items you’re considering using. Offering advise on what can be used and what can not. The conversation starts flowing with what you are hoping to achieve and inspiration comes from many aspects. Elayne gets a feel for your style combined with what’s possible with your pieces provided. She will sketch things up as you chat or use photo’s and/or jewellery in house to demonstrate different aspects in 3D to convey what the piece of jewellery can become. This process takes utmost trust and an open mind, as this is what achieves the best results. Remodeling can’t be controlled on every aspect, but this is part of the true artistic magic.

What Remodeling represents

Creating these custom pieces of jewellery can be incredibly complex, with every situation is unique in the exact process that follows, regardless it’s not a stage that can or should be rushed. Like the old saying goes the best things come to those who wait. Isn’t that just the truth, the moment you come in store to see the finished product the pride and happiness felt is immense. You take away with you a whole experience and a piece of jewellery to enjoy for many years to come with an essence of yourself and all that’s been apart of your journey in life thus far. That’s what remodeling should be.
